BenevolentAI identified an arthritis drug can serve as a COVID treatment

BenevolentAI helped researchers identify the arthritis drug baricitinib as a treatment for COVID-19. By May 2022, Lilly reported that nearly one million COVID patients across about 15 countries had received it. A trial with 8,156 hospitalized patients found that adding baricitinib to usual care reduced deaths within 28 days from 13.6% to 12.4%. Another trial with 1,525 patients found a larger reduction, from 13.1% to 8.1%.
