John Deere See and Spray reduces herbicide use

John Deere See & Spray uses cameras and machine learning to tell weeds apart from crops and spray only where treatment is needed. Farmers used it across more than five million acres during the 2025 growing season. Deere reports that customers reduced non-residual herbicide use by nearly 50% on average. That saved almost 31 million gallons of herbicide mix and reduced the amount farmers needed to buy. Trials* (sponsored by Deere) across seven states found less crop injury with targeted spraying. Soybean yields increased by an average of two bushels per acre compared with spraying the whole field. Deere's business impact report released in 2026 highlights the system's growing use on working farms.
